Where to Eat With Kids (Honest Reviews)

Corner Café is the move for breakfast. Fluffy pancakes, kid-size portions, high chairs, and staff who have clearly seen a stroller before. Go early.

Diego's Barrio Cantina on Aquidneck Avenue is great for lunch or dinner — casual and has a kids menu with quesadillas and tacos that actually get eaten.

Mission Newport is your burger and hot dog situation. Counter service, fast, and outdoor seating in the spring means your wiggly toddler can exist freely in the world without you stress-sweating through the meal.

Belle's Café at the Newport Shipyard is genuinely underrated. Waterfront tables, boats to point at, relaxed vibe. Perfect for the kid who's obsessed with anything that floats, which at some point is all of them.

Pro tip: outdoor patios start opening up in late spring, which is an absolute game changer for families with strollers and kids who need to move.

What to Actually Do

Cliff Walk — The first section is paved and totally stroller-friendly. Spring means fewer people, which means your toddler can actually toddle without you running interference every thirty seconds. The ocean views are genuinely stunning and the historic mansions in the background make it feel fancier than it is.

Easton's Beach (First Beach) — It's too cold to swim but honestly that's fine. Seashells, kite flying, and sand digging. No summer crowds means your kid can actually run without you losing them immediately.

Newport Car Museum — Hear us out. Kids who love anything with wheels are absolutely obsessed with this place. Shiny cars, wide open space, interactive stuff. Just prep them for the "look but don't touch" conversation in advance.

Green Animals Topiary Garden — Hedges shaped like giraffes, elephants, and a teddy bear. Spring blooms make it genuinely beautiful and the paved paths are stroller-accessible. Kids think it's completely wild that someone did this with bushes and they're right.

Brenton Point State Park — This is your kite flying spot. Big open fields, easy parking, ocean views, room to picnic. Spring winds are perfect for it and there's nothing a toddler loves more than watching a kite go up.

Newport Harbor Island Resort on Goat Island is great if your kids want to feel like they're on an adventure. Suite options, a complimentary shuttle downtown, and outdoor fire pits for s'mores at the end of the day.

The Chanler at Cliff Walk is the splurge option — beautiful grounds, direct Easton's Beach access, and genuinely family-friendly service despite looking like the kind of place that wouldn't be.

Vacation rentals are worth considering in spring — hosts are more flexible, prices are better, and many are set up for families with cribs and high chairs already in place. There's actually one right above our shop if you want to be dangerously close to cute kids' clothes at all times.

Parking (A Spring Exclusive)

Parking in Newport in July is a sport. In spring it's just...parking. Easton's Beach north lot is free or low cost and gives you easy access to the beach, Cliff Walk, and the playground. Long Wharf Mall lot is central to downtown. Street parking opens up on a lot of side streets in the shoulder season. Enjoy it while it lasts, May 1 is when meters and parking restrictions start.

A Few Practical Notes

Layer everyone. Spring weather in Newport does what it wants — pack jackets, hats, and a blanket for breezy evenings by the water.

Bring a rain cover for your stroller. Coastal weather has a sense of humor.
